Treatment of solid wood with silane compounds

In this project, financed by an industrial partner, the treatment of solid wood with silane compounds was investigated. First, monomeric silanes were used with the aim of dimensional stabilization, hydrophobization and increased resistance to wood-destroying fungi. Furthermore, water-based oligomeric silane compounds were used, which resulted in a more stable impregnation bath compared to the silane monomers. In addition to the water-related properties and durability, the weathering behaviour of the treated wood was also investigated.
