The Social Project of the Theologisches Stift Göttingen 2025/26
This winter semester 2025–2026, we are supporting Frauenhaus Göttingen e.V. as our social project.
The Göttingen Women’s Shelter is operated by Frauenhaus Göttingen e.V., an independent, nonprofit association, and provides refuge, counselling, and support for women and children affected by domestic violence.
Domestic violence can take many forms — psychological, physical, sexual, and economic — and is a serious violation of fundamental human rights. Women experiencing violence often face control, threats, isolation, and other harms that endanger their safety and autonomy. The shelter emphasizes that violence against women is always also violence against children, as witnessing violence can have long-lasting emotional and psychological effects.
The Göttingen Women’s Shelter offers a safe and confidential environment where women and children can find temporary accommodation in a supportive house community, access protection counselling and safety planning to assess risks and develop strategies, and receive psychosocial support to rebuild confidence and autonomy. Women are also provided with information and guidance on legal rights, housing, employment, and navigating authorities, and receive ongoing support before, during, and after their stay. Consultations are available in person or by phone, and can also be provided anonymously. The shelter works to help women understand their rights, recognize danger, and strengthen their ability to make independent decisions.
Each year, thousands of women and children in Germany seek help from women’s shelters, highlighting the ongoing need for protection and support. Through this social project, Theologisches Stift Göttingen hopes to contribute, even in a small way, to the important work of the Göttingen Women’s Shelter and to support women and children on their path toward safety, stability, and a life free from violence.
