The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) encourages the active participation of German academics as well as doctoral candidates in congresses abroad. Please find further information on the website of the DAAD.



Funding for research trips:

Within the framework of the doctoral programme, the Fulbright Commission encourages stays in the USA for four to six months of young German academics who carry out a research project, which is directly associated with the already started doctoral thesis, at a higher education institution or in a scientific institution in the USA. Once a year, the Max Weber Foundation confers Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants to young academics who have an international focus. The grants have a total term of up to three months; the stays serve for research, especially in libraries or archives. PROMOS: Programme for the promotion of the mobility of students of German higher education institutions:

The programme PROMOS, which is run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), offers doctoral candidates grants for language courses, stays abroad as part of specialised courses as well as study trips and travels as part of contests for groups. The grants up to six months offer the possibility of funding for projects and destinations beyond the ones considered by the structured programmes of DAAD.
