Members

The members of GSGG are doctoral candidates, supervising professors as well as postdocs who do their research and teach at one of the over 40 institutes of the Faculties of Humanities and Theology. Additionally, there are external researchers who are associated with GSGG through their supervision of doctoral candidates.

Doctoral Candidates

Our aim is to provide doctoral candidates of the Faculties of Humanities and Theology with the advantages of a structured doctoral programme as well as to ensure the best supervision possible. The doctoral candidates have two delegates who are part of the Executive Board of GSGG. They are thus involved in the strategic orientation of the graduate school.

Supervisors

All doctoral candidates are supported by two to three supervisors. The vast majority are professors at the University of Göttingen, and some emeriti/emeritae also accompany doctoral students. Numerous academics from other universities in Germany and abroad are members of the supervisory committees as second and third supervisors.
Postdocs at chairs, research centres and research training groups are also involved in the supervision of doctoral researchers in a variety of ways. Since the GSGG was founded, this service has been formalised and recognised through official membership of a supervisory committee.
The office is happy to provide supervisors with information and advice on individual questions. We also support association projects (application, information events for new doctoral students, quality assurance, etc.).
