Myth Research in Göttingen

Myths are among the most fascinating treasures of ancient cultures, even for today's recipients. Myths were almost omnipresent from ancient Mesopotamia to ancient Rome, media of central discourses and reflections.

At the same time, myths are among the greatest challenges for the sciences: their specific mechanisms, semantic contexts and historical functions are not easy to decipher. Research associations of the University of Göttingen in the field of ancient cultures accept the challenge by working on theoretical and methodological foundations of myth research and testing their applicability in exemplary studies.
