Library

The library of the Mathematical Institute is located on the first floor of the main building of the Mathematical Institute in Bunsenstraße 3-5. It provides a selected collection of literature for studies, teaching and research, preferably for the members of the Department of Mathematics and students of the University of Göttingen, as well as for other scientists and lecturers. Therefore, the library is designed as a hands-free reference library and only a short-term loan for copying purposes is possible upon presentation of an identity card.

Reading Room
A large part of the monographs is kept in the front reading room. For discussions and group work you can use the talking room (Sprechsaal) which is accesible via the front reading room and equipped with chalkboards and a scanner. Other parts of the library collection are kept in the back reading room. Here you can find congress headings and conference proceedings, series, handbooks and encyclopedias, commemorative publications and collected works, biographies, textbooks, periodicals and uncommitted recent journals. OPAC workstations with Internet access are available in the back reading room. Bound volumes of journals are kept at the gallery.

Catalogue and Library Collection
Currently, a changeover to a new library system is in progress. Therefore, the collection of the library is being recorded in different parts in two catalogues. The old catalogue of the library lists only the literature until 2012 and is gradually being transfered to the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The acquisitions from 2013 and on are recorded in the GUK. Using the GUK you can do a research selectively on the collection of the Mathematical Institute by choosing "Mathematisches Institut".

For the changeover to a new library system the entire reference collection is being equiped with shelf marks and it is being optimized in its structure. Therefore, the entire acquisitions from 2013 and on are in parts temporarily kept in the back reading room's section of new acquisitions.

Borrow Items
Only Members of the Department of Mathematics as well as of the associated special research areas of the University of Göttingen with an office in one of these scientific institutions are entitled to borrow items from the library for an appropriate period of time (as a rule for a maximum of 14 to 21 days). The borrowed items must remain in the office, being available for possible requirements. Return borrowed library items at the library desk. Do not return them to the shelf by yourself. Abstracting journals and unbound journal issues kept in the back reading room cannot be borrowed. All further regulations are defined in the terms of use of the library of the Mathematical Institute.

New Acquisitions
We exhibit new acquisitions in the back reading room and present them every Thursday during the term for the participants of the Colloquium of the Mathematical Society in the meeting room. With the exception of unbound journal issues as well as abstracting journals, new acquisitions can be borrowed, complying with the terms of use.
