What is the procedure after the interview invitation?

We inform you in writing about the date of the panel interview. If you cannot come to Göttingen for the interview, a video conference interview is possible.

The interview will take about 30 minutes and will be in English. Applicants who had participated in a selection process (including panel interview) at the University of Göttingen are interviewed by one member of BeCog. Applicants who have not yet participated in a selection process at the University of Göttingen will by interviewed by three members of BeCog. At the start of the interview participants shall give a short, 5- 10 minute presentation on their proposed PhD project. Powerpoint presentations are welcomed and we will provide assistance to implement the presentation in a video conference. The presentation will be followed by the questions of the panel, in which applicants shall refer to their PhD-project, their knowledge of the field of research and their motivation to join BeCog.
The panel will submit a recommendation to the program committee.

Applicants will be informed in writing whether their application was successful. Then, applicants have to declare within 14 days whether they accept the offer. With this declaration, applicants must submit the source documents (or certified copies thereof) of their application material.

All documents will be finally verified; degree certificates not obtained in a country belonging to the Bologna signatory states will be submitted to the Faculty council, which accepts or rejects the application and decides if pre-defined study results must be achieved within the first year. In case of an acceptance, applicants will be provided with a confirmation letter. This confirmation letter must be signed by all members of the thesis committee, the speaker of BeCog, the dean or the study dean. The signed confirmation letter is required for the enrolment at the University.

More information on the enrolment procedure can be found on the webpage of the Office of Student Affairs.
