Timur Kodzoko
Timur Kodzoko is an ethnographer, sound researcher, and curator of artistic-anthropological projects from Nalchik, North Caucasus. Since 2024, he has been based in Germany, following a growing engagement with decolonial and anti-authoritarian cultural practices in the North Caucasus.
In 2025, he joined the University of Göttingen as a guest researcher at the Institute of Cultural Anthropology / European Ethnology within the Center for Global Migration Studies (CeMig).
His work bridges ethnographic research, archival practices, and sonic methods to create new spaces for reinterpreting traditional music and cultural identities in contemporary settings. He focuses particularly on cultural processes within diasporic and migratory contexts, as well as on practices of resistance to colonial and postcolonial domination through sound and performance. In his artistic and research projects, he has worked closely with folk ensembles and individual artists from the North Caucasus, accompanying processes of sonic transformation, stage representation, and the rearticulation of local knowledge. His research also engages with decolonial movements and cultural resistance among North Caucasian communities living in various parts of the world.
Together with Bulat Khalilov, he co-founded the label Ored Recordings and initiated the post-traditional music project JRPJEJ.
