Centre for Modern East Asian Studies (CeMEAS)

Launched in 2012, the Centre for Modern East Asian Studies (CeMEAS) plays a key role in Göttingen’s strategy to strengthen research and teaching in the field of East Asian Studies. It is one of the multi-regional and multi-disciplinary research centres at the University of Göttingen.

Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS)

The research interests of five professors and more than 25 research assistants and doctoral candidates from the disciplines of history, political science, religious studies, ethnology, development economics, and ethnology of health care focus on the topics of “Metamorphoses of the Political,” “Religion,” “Inequality and Diversity,” “Labor and Capital in Modern India,” and “Media and Public Spheres.”

The Campus Institute for Data Science (CIDAS) is a central scientific institution at Georg August University and also a hub for interdisciplinary and campus-wide collaboration in the field of data science. This particularly concerns the coordination and further development of activities in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer in the field of data science.

German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA)

The GIGA analyzes political, economic, and social developments in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as global issues and their regional and local impacts. Based on its research, the institute engages in regular knowledge exchange with policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.

Göttingen Centre for Digital Humanities (GCDH)

The Göttingen Centre for Digital Humanities (GCDH) coordinates, carries out, and further develops cross-faculty and campus-wide research, teaching, and infrastructure activities in the field of Digital Humanities. Beside the University the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Herzog-August-Bibliothek at Wolfenbüttel (HAB), the GWDG, the SUB, and the MPIMMG have been and are partners in this collaboration.

Göttingen Center for Gender Studies(GCG)

The Göttingen Center for Gender Studies is a research-based center that aims to anchor gender studies in as many subjects and faculties as possible at the university, thereby increasing its visibility both within and outside the university, pooling existing research, and generating new interdisciplinary research. Within the framework of the interaction between teaching and research, degree programs in gender studies are to be strengthened and their further qualification promoted.

The Göttingen Graduate School of Social Sciences (GGG) is aimed at doctoral students and doctoral supervisors in the social science faculties, i.e. the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics, and the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Cooperation Office for Universities and Trade Unions (KHG)

The most urgent tasks are the expansion and maintenance of joint communication structures, the establishment of a cooperation network, and the initiation of application or research projects as needed. The research and consulting interests of various scientific and (regional) actors are to be communicated in moderated processes and translated into joint projects.

Teacher training network (NLF)

The Teacher Training Network (NLF) is a central institution for special tasks at Georg August University in Göttingen. It is responsible for the development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of school-type-specific and cross-school-type regional training courses for public schools of all types in the districts of Göttingen and Northeim.

Sociological Research Institute Göttingen (SOFI)

SOFI has been an affiliated institute of Georg August University of Göttingen since 1983 and an associated campus partner since 2020. SOFI's research follows the principle of application-oriented basic research dedicated to key issues of our time: changes in the world of work and digitalization, social cohesion and the production of public goods, social inequality, and the common good.

Central Facility for Sports and Health (ZESG)

The Higher Education Framework Act (HRG) defines the promotion of university sports as a responsibility of the university and its students. This legal mandate obligates universities to support university sports through appropriate material and personnel resources. In Göttingen, this is represented by the Central Facility for Sports and Health, which offers UniSports, and thus primarily targets university staff and students.

Central Scientific Institution for Teacher Training (ZEWIL)

ZEWIL is a central scientific institution at Georg August University in Göttingen. As an interdisciplinary network between educational science, educational psychology, and subject didactics, it serves to further develop interdisciplinary research, coordinate teaching in teacher training programs, and connect stakeholders involved in teacher training at the university, the teacher training seminar, and the teacher training network.

Centre for Global Migration Studies (CeMig)

The Center for Global Migration Research (CeMig) brings together researchers from six different faculties at Göttingen Campus and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity (MPI-MMG). Working together across disciplines, they study the global challenges of migration, focusing on a wide range of topics and regions and using different methods.
