Business and Human Resource Education - Degree: "Bachelor of Arts (BA)"
Business and human resource education combines economics with questions regarding education policy, organisation and didactic methods. This area of study applies to vocational training and further education in schools as well as in companies. Graduates of a master's degree in business and human resource education are prepared to take on careers such as a teacher in vocational schools.
The bachelor’'s programme in business and human resource education was established in the 2008/ 2009 winter semester and accredited in January 2010 by the central evaluation and accrediting agency in Hanover (ZeVA: Zentrale Evaluations- und Akkreditierungsagentur Hannover), a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance for Higher Education (ENQA).
The standard period of study is six semesters with a requirement of 180 credits to successfully complete the programme. The programme includes studies in the economic sciences (96 credits), a second teaching subject (36 credits) as well as business and human resource education (36 credits). The final part of the study is the bachelor's thesis which accounts for 12 credits. One of the following teaching subjects may be selected as the second subject of study: German, English, French, Spanish, protestant religion, computer science, mathematics, sports, and political science. The second subjects are offered by other faculties of the University of Göttingen. Some faculties have limited the number of places in these subjects that can be taken by students of Business and Human Resource Education. These include sport (15), politics (7), and informatics (15). In all other subjects there are no restrictions. The Faculty of Business and Economics offers a total of 79 places in the Bachelor's Programme in Business and Human Resource Education.
The bachelor's programme is taught in German and therefore requires a solid foundation in German.
The bachelor's programme in business and human resource education is divided into two phases. The first phase of the study is comprised of the 1st and 2nd semester, and the second, 3rd to 6th semesters.
In the first phase, students acquire a basic knowledge in economic sciences as well as several important relevant disciplines such as information and communication systems and relevant mathematical and statistical methods. Students will also begin their first module in the second teaching subject.
The second phase of studies completes the basic education in economic sciences and moves towards specialization. Knowledge in the second teaching subject is also deepened in this section.

The bachelor’'s programme in business and human resource education has restricted admission. Application and enrolment is possible every semester (both summer and winter). What we expect from our potential students:
- Motivation and determination
- Interest in business and macroeconomic issues
- Analytical skills and an interest and ability to deal with mathematical representations
- Good knowledge of the German language, and good knowledge of the English language is recommended
- Ability to convey knowledge to others
Career and academic perspectives
In the bachelor's programme in business and human resource education, graduates are prepared to work primarily in business education in the field of education.
Graduates are also prepared to start careers in other fields such as personnel management, or working in operational activities and training, personnel and training management and administration of education in chambers and associations. The bachelor's degree also prepares students to pursue a master’s programme in business and human resource education. Successful completion of the master’s programme in business and human resource education qualifies graduates to teach at vocational schools.
Alternatively, you can also join the Master's programme in Business Education and Personnel Development. In particular, it prepares students for positions in personnel departments (personnel development) in companies and organizations.
