The Master’s programme in Global Business (MSc) has been closed for the winter semester 2023/2024. Application to this degree programme is no longer possible. Students already enrolled will be allowed to complete the programme by the end of the winter semester 2025/2026.

If you would like to do your Master's programme in this field, the degree in Management would be an alternative for you.

This is what you can expect during your studies

With the internationally oriented, bilingual Master's programme in Global Business, you will be optimally prepared for international working environments in the global economy. You will receive a sound education in international business administration and can also set individual majors in your studies. The content of the basic modules, the specialisation area and the seminar can be assigned to the focus areas "Finance, Accounting and Taxes"; "Management"; "Marketing" or "Information Systems". If you have acquired 30 credits in one of these specialisations in the course of your studies, you can have it shown on your Master's degree certificate. Through the mandatory semester abroad at one of our numerous international partner universities, you will also acquire relevant language skills and intercultural competences.

  • Programme Structure

The English-language basic modules provide you with advanced knowledge in the areas of "Information Systems", "Finance, Accounting and Taxes", "Management" as well as "Marketing" and deepen the knowledge already acquired in your first study programme. They also form the basis for the modules in the specialisation area. In this area, you set your own focal points (major) in the fields of "Information Systems", "Finance, Accounting and Taxes", "Management" or "Marketing" and thereby develop an individual study profile.

The seminar deals with a specific topic in international business administration. The component quantitative methods prepares students with the skills needed to apply academic research methods in business and economics. In the economics component, students deepen their knowledge of economic issues.

Finally, in the elective area you take language courses or other modules related to a personal area of specialization in other areas of business and economics, as well as other related fields.

The standard period of study is four semesters. The programme comprises a total of 120 credits:

    1. Mandatory courses (24 C)

    2. Specialisation (24 C)

    3. Seminar (6-12 C)

    4. Quantitative methods (6 C)

    5. Economics (6 C)

    6. Electives (18-24 C)

    7. Master's thesis (30 C)

You can find an overview of the individual areas and the selectable modules here (WiSe 2023/2024; in German)

  • Study abroad

The programme also requires an obligatory semester abroad at a foreign university (overview of our partner universities). While studying abroad, students should complete a total of 30 credits. A minimum of 18 credits must be proven and transferred back to the University of Göttingen. In case of any questions please contact the Study Abroad Advisory Service of the Faculty's Service Centre for Students.

The examination board decides on the recognition of the courses taken at the foreign university. This must be bindingly agreed upon before the stay abroad by concluding a learning agreement. Failed examinations during the semester abroad can be repeated at the University of Göttingen.

  • Internship

In order to apply the acquired knowledge in the business world, to gain first work experience or to get to know possible relevant professional fields - the Faculty of Business and Economics welcomes students to gain practical experience during their studies. Therefore, you have the possibility to have a voluntary internship in the elective area of your studies credited under certain conditions. You can find detailed information here.

What our alumni say about studying in Göttingen

  • Portrait photo of Annika Burneleit. She is wearing a blue blouse and a dark blue blazer.

"I made a very conscious decision to take the Global Business Master's programme. Not only the courses offered, but also the opportunities for extracurricular activities, the input from the diverse student body and the city itself have left their mark on me. I was able to spend a semester abroad at UPAEP in Mexico, which once again broadened my view of the world. All these experiences and insights help me now to go my way."

    IT Business Partner, GOLDBECK

  • Portrait photo Lukas Tatge. He is wearing a white shirt.

"The Global Business degree has been essential for me to think about big global issues and business fields. I was also able to attend many IT lectures during my studies, which are currently helping me a lot in leading the development of our data-based prototype. Without studying in China, my horizons would never have expanded as they have over the past two years."

Founder of the FinTech Start Up CIMK
