Collegium Mythologicum
The Collegium Mythologicum represents one of the initiatives on Myth Research instituted by Prof. Dr. Annette Zgoll (Ancient Near Eastern Studies) and Prof. Dr. Christian Zgoll (Classical Philology and Comparative Studies). In this Collegium a group of scholars and PhD candidates from a variety of disciplines takes up the challenge presented by the rich mythical component of Ancient Near Eastern as well as other ancient traditions. Through an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas they develop new methodological approaches which enable advances in our understanding and new insights. This collaborative work also focuses on the discussion of theoretical questions in myth research as well as on further developing and increasing the precision of terminology in the field. It is after all a central concern to confront the multifaceted questions which result from a modern look at the myths as well as from the myths with a view toward modernity.
The members of the Collegium Mythologicum hail from the disciplines Ancient Near Eastern Studies (Sumerian, Akkadian and Hittite Studies), Egyptology, Classical Philology, Comparative Studies, Religious Studies, and Theology; they maintain connections to the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Studies, the Department of Classical Philology, the Lichtenbergkolleg and the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. Since 2010 they have been collaborating in the context of interdisciplinary conferences and colloquia on the study of myth.
